Church of Santo Domingo
The remains of this construction are located inside the cultural complex of Casa Santo Domingo, which you can access by the street with the same name, the same road to access La Antigua Guatemala from the capital city.
Its history goes back to 1551 when it was occupied by the Order of Santo Domingo.

According to chronicles from that time, it was a magnificent building and its remains help to identify the original height of the temple.
It was victim of the strong quakes that hurled down so many other constructions in La Antigua Guatemala.
Until this day there are remains of its walls under a protecting roof, which makes us miss the original vault that protected the Grand Altar.
This altar is preserved useful because it requires a few permits to celebrate weddings here, in fact they take place in the Santo Domingo complex.
To see this church you must enter the cultural complex and pay the entrance fee to the Museum Area or Museum Walk (Paseo de los Museos).
