Ruins of the Santa Rosa de Lima Church
This ruin complex is located at the end of Alameda de Santa Rosa and you can get there by the 1ª. Avenida Norte or the Calle de la Candelaria.
Their nuns were known for their white clothing. The complex was opened around 1570 as a sisterhood for damsels and in 1766 it became a reclusion convent.
The constructor, José Manuel Ramírez, left a clear and incomparable mark in its works, evidenced by the ornamental and architectonic resemblance with the Tridentine College and, especially, with the façade and interior of the University of San Carlos, which today is a visited museum.

The church shows clear architectural scars left by the different earthquakes that shook the Colonial City, but differently from other temples and buildings of the region, this one stands out for particular additional features: the two blocks that are still static makes you think in a threatening movement.
This facade attracts the attention by evidencing big cracks in its superior part and in its entry arch, that seem about to fall down.
Altogether, they give the visitor the idea of the damage produced by the strong quakes when the huge and colossal pieces that formed the arches and domes fell down. In the case of Santa Rosa de Lima, only the remains of the walls stood up.
