Ruins of the Church of Our Lady of the Remedies
This temple is located at the end of the Street of the Way of the Cross, on the road to Santa María de Jesús, towards the Agua Volcano.
This temple was built ca. 1575 and is one of the oldest of the city. It was appointed a parish in May of 1594 and is fondly remembered because of the order’s devotion towards the Indians.
The Order of Saint Augustine, which took over the church in 1625, made arrangements to finalize the building. The church was severely damaged by the earthquakes that hit the city in several occasions.
After a couple of years, the order in charge made some repairs and, by 1805, the temple started again to serve the community. The natural disasters were relentless and forced the city to move to the Ermita Valley in 1776, along with many parishes and religious orders.

This parish, however, did not move and stayed in Antigua Guatemala for several years. It finally moved to the new city in May of 1784.
The temple was abandoned and it has remained in disrepair.
It is not open to visitors. Its right tower is still standing.
The façade is very sober and is not as richly ornamented as others in the city.
* This temple is outside of the urban area of Antigua Guatemala.
