Ruins of the Church of El Carmen
It is located on 3d Avenue North between 2nd and 3d Streets. At this point, the avenue is wider than others of Antigua Guatemala and it allows the visitors a better view of the façade.
This place is always full of visitors.
It was founded in honor of Our Lady of El Carmen. The required permits were issued in 1638.
The original temple did not have the minute details of the second building, erected after the earthquake of 1717.
The building was finished in 1728 but succumbed to the earthquakes of 1773. The stucco façade, however, survives today.
The façade, just as those of other churches, is the home of birds that add life to its impressive presence during the day.

During the nights the architecture is also prominent, because its frontispiece and columns are artistically illuminated and they offer an amazing spectacle.
Surrounded by color
Today the church boasts an impressive parade of colors, because a handicrafts market is set up before it.
The temple can be accessed through a side door, which also opens to a colorful market.
