Guatemalan handicrafts are famous around the world. The talent of the craftsmen, its colorfulness, and the culture that the objects have within them, make a useful, valuable, and beautiful souvenir.
The place where all the representative works from Guatemala are found is without doubt the Central Market.
Both Guatemalans and foreigners go there to find a wide variety of products and also low prices.
By descending one level, you find typical garments, you smell the leather of bags, slippers, hats, and you see images made out of wood.
The visitor can take a look at wooden chests that are carved or painted, ceramic figurines, tablecloths, T-shirts, watches, pens, and saints.
For the ones that have more refined taste, there is a cornered area where you can get silver jewelry and semiprecious stones. The prizes go a little high, but the design and materials are worth it.
Going a little lower, through the area of fruits and vegetables, there is another section where you can get clay objects and baskets. You can also find curious images of Saint Joseph and Virgin Mary, as well as bowls, pots, candlesticks, and souvenirs for weddings and other celebrations.
The wicker baskets, the clay censers, and the chat with the vendors, make this visit a happy moment, in which many times our traditions are transferred through a weaving a couple of smiles.
