With easy to reach Access, Monja Blanca Lagoon is located in Palencia and offers recreation among nature, security, fresh air, sports areas and the necessary peace to practice fishing. All within 40 minutes of the urban center of the Capital City.
The lagoon is fed by the water of nearby rivers and water births coming from surrounding mountains. The volcanic characteristics of the soil allow the permanence of the water without it to become filtered to the subsoil or to get dirty.

According to the inhabitants of the place, the lagoon was formed at the beginning as a water gathering that used to get dirty because it wasn’t deep enough and had no movement, but after the area was drilled to add depth, a deviated movement of small rivers and additional water births made it grow and accumulated watercourse. In such way, the water is oxygenated and integrated completely to an ecosystem, forming part of the same.

Fish were added to enrich the existing ecosystem to provide the inhabitants a source of varied food and income, as well as distraction and an attractive activity to visitors.

Activities to exercise:You can undertake walks or mountain bike circuits, or rowing in rented boats.
Activities to distract:If the objective is to clean your mind and relax enjoying fresh air, it is a simple matter to stay under the trees planted on the shore, specially the guava trees with exotic branches that Project a refreshing shadow.
Fishing activities:It is allowed to fish without nets, either in the shore or in the middle of the lagoon. In the shore you can fish tilapia fish or even lobsters, if you rent a boat and go to the middle of the lagoon at deep levels, the specimens are bigger.
Bird watching activities:The combination of peace and nature has allowed, up to date, the free reproduction and stay of several species of birds, from local species to migratory ones, which can be observed while they swim calmly in the water or while staying in the branches of the trees, such as the shy parrots and parakeets.
Security:As a protective policy to the fauna, one must pay for what one fishes, security guards do watching circuits constantly around the lagoon to make sure the visitors do not interrupt or damage the ecosystem.
How to get to Monja Blanca Lagoon:
Departing from the Capital City, you must take the road to the Atlantic, towards Palencia. You enter Palencia through the main street and follow the path to the left, making a turn in the first corner. This road takes you downwards until you end in a terrace path (you must not make a left turn before the terrace starts, because you will return to the city).
After this path abundant in lose rocks (do not bring a low car or overloaded car) you can see the Monja Blanca Lagoon. There is a parking area located in front of the sports court.
The entrance has no charge, the only requirement is the good behavior of the visitors without disturbing the ecosystem and to pay for what you fish.
